Use of was, were in conversation

Was, were क्रियाएँ भी 'be' forms (Past Tense) कहलाती हैं। Was, were वाले वाक्य बनाने के लिए इस Structure का प्रयोग किया जाता है; जैसे - Subject + was, were (में से कोई एक) + Complement.

इस तरह के वाक्यों में Complement: Noun, Adjective, Pronoun या Adverb या Adjective + Noun किसी भी रूप में हो सकता है; जैसे-

1. He was my father. (Noun)
2. They were happy. (Adjective)
3. It was mine. (Pronoun)
4. He was there. (Adverb.)

सबसे पहले हम जान लेते है कि इस तरह के वाक्यों में was, were का प्रयोग कहा पर किया जाता है।

A.) Was का प्रयोग Singular Subjects (जैसे He, She, It, Noun (कोई नाम), This, That, His, etc) के साथ किया जाता है।
B.) Were का प्रयोग Plural Subjects (जैसे We, You, They, Those, These, They, etc) के साथ किया जाता है।

तो चलिए दोस्तों हम यहा पर कुछ Affirmative वाक्य बना कर के थोडा सा अभ्यास कर लेते है।

1. I was a student. (मैं एक छात्र था।)
2. She was my Sister. (वह मेरी बहन थी।)
3. This was a motorcycle. (यह एक मोटरसाइकिल थी।)
4. This was a table. (यह एक मैज थी।)
5. That was my car. (वह मेरी कार थी।)
6. We were two brothers. (हम दो भाई थे।)
7. He was my brother. (वह मेरा भाई था।)
8. He was my class-fellow. (वह मेरा क्लास-फेलो था।)
9. He was an honest. (वह ईमानदार था।)
10. He was a thief. (वह एक चोर था।)
11. These were my books. (ये मेरी किताबें थीं।)
12. Those were my friends. (वे मेरे दोस्त थें।)
13. Anu was my best friend. (अनू मेरी सबसे अच्छी दोस्त थी।)
14. I was happy. (मैं खुश था।)
15. He was my teacher. (वह मेरा अध्यापक था।)
16. You were a doctor. (तुम एक डॉक्टर थे।)
17. She was a girl. (वो एक लड़की थी।)
18. That was the telephone. (वह टेलीफोन था। )
19. You were a fool. (तुम मूर्ख थे।)
20. This was a laptop. (यह एक लैपटॉप था।)

हम यहा पर कुछ Negative वाक्य बना कर के थोडा सा अभ्यास कर लेते है। Affirmative वाक्यों को Negative वाक्य बनाने के लिए was, were के बाद सिर्फ 'not' का प्रयोग करना होता है; जैसे- Subject + was/were + not + complement.

1. I was not a student. (मैं एक छात्र नही था।)
2. She was not my Sister. (वह मेरी बहन नही थी।)
3. This was not a motorcycle. (यह एक मोटरसाइकिल नही थी।)
4. This was not a table. (यह एक मैज नही थी।)
5. That was mot my car. (वह मेरी कार नही थी।)
6. We were not two brothers. (हम दो भाई नही थे।)
7. He was not my brother. (वह मेरा भाई नही था।)
8. He was not my class-fellow. (वह मेरा क्लास-फेलो नही था।)
9. He was not an honest. (वह ईमानदार नही था।)

हम यहा पर कुछ Interrogative वाक्य बना कर के थोडा सा अभ्यास कर लेते है। Affirmative वाक्य को Interrogative वाक्य बनाने के लिए Was, Were का प्रयोग Subject
से पहले करना होता है; जैसे- Was/Were + Subject + complement?

1. Was I a student? (क्या मैं एक छात्र था?)
2. Was she my Sister? (क्या वह मेरी बहन थी?)
3. Was this a motorcycle? (क्या यह एक मोटरसाइकिल था?)
